Faculty-led Programs

Studying abroad during the Summer, Winter Intersession or Spring break is an excellent introduction to life abroad and also serves as an alternative to those who do not have the flexibility to study abroad during the academic year.

Each year a number of faculty-led study abroad programs are offered and are announced in the Fall or Spring Course Schedules.

If you are interested in any of thes facullty-led programs, please contact the appropriate faculty leader for more information or contact the Spiegel Center for Global and International Programs.

In additon to the information offered on this website, you can also come to The Spiegel Center for Global and International Programs.  We’re here to address any questions and concerns that you might have.  The Spiegel Center's office hours are from 8:30am to 4:30pm. We are located in Global Heritage Hall. You can also email Marcy Farrell, Special Programs Coordinator, for further information.

STEPS FOR ONLINE APPLICATION PROCESS

Visit the Spiegel Center’s new online “Study Abroad Office” website:

1.
 Create an account
2. Begin exploring different program options
3. Meet with your advisor & the program faculty-leader to discuss if this program works best for you

There are only 3 Forms to complete for Faculty-Led Programs:

1) Application Form
2) Health Information Form
3) Communication Approval Form

DISREGARD REQUESTS FOR ALL OTHER FORMS by clicking to next page or answering “Yes” if you are asked to complete any other forms.
 
DISREGARD THE “APPLICATION FEE” It does NOT apply to Faculty-Led Programs.

The date applications must be submitted vary depending on the program. Please contact the faculty program leader for application deadline.

Fees

The fee schedule and amount vary depending on the program and are usually published the semester before the trip is offered. 

Requirements
  • The appropriate GPA (as determined by the Faculty program leader).
  • Satisfactory judicial history. 
  • Advisor and Program Leader approval.
  • Course pre-requisite (if applicable)
Financial Aid

Financial Aid does not apply to either Winter Intersession, Spring Break or Summer Programs.

"Bridging the World" Study Abroad Scholarship

Students applying to RWU sponsored short term study abroad programs are eligible to apply for the "Bridging the World" Study Abroad Scholarship.

Type and Criteria of Awards:

  • Scholarships based on academic merit only
  • Scholarships based on financial need and academic merit

Students can obtain a scholarship fact sheet and application at the Spiegel Center for Global and International Programs.

Deadlines for Scholarship application submission:

  • Winter Intersession       October 1
  • Spring Break                    December 1
  • Summer Session            March 1

  • Hong Kong - General Liberal Arts, Business, Languages & Service Learning
  • France - Summer Study in Rouen,France
  • Paris & London - Cultural & Sociological Studies
  • Siracusa, Sicily - Comparative & International Education 
  • Netherlands - Urban Form & Architecture 
  • Bahamas -  Aquaculture diving program in collaboration w/ New England Aquarium

Every year the roster of programs offered may change.
Please check with the Spiegel Center or this website for the updated roster. 
Roger Williams University reserves the right to cancel Faculty-Led  programs offered during the academic year for insufficient enrollment or for any other reason. Should it prove necessary to do so the School will notify all registrants.
