The BTS Summer Institute (SI) was developed in 1999 with the financial support of Bank of America to provide intensive support and training for college preparation, including Standardized Aptitude Test (SAT) prep, math and science enrichment, financial literacy, lessons in etiquette and other life skills. This eleven-day residential program affords College-bound high school juniors and seniors a glimpse into the day-to-day life of a college student through a series of classes, workshop, cultural and recreational programming. 

Summer Institute is staffed by RWU Undergrads with a minimum of one year’s experience as Mentors in the BTS academic year program or similar youth service work. Along with tutoring, the SI Mentors also facilitate workshops, provide guidance on presentations and performances, serve as Residence Assistants and assist in the program design.  As with the academic year program, the Mentee to Mentor ratio is four-to-one
